Tuition

  • Full time students,12 to 18 points flat rate, per term: $20,389.00
  • Film Production students must pay laboratory and equipment insurance fees of approximately $681 per semester.
  • Those who are directors of student projects may incur production costs above and beyond what is reasonably supplied by the school (in the way of cameras, equipment, stock, soundstage facilities, postproduction rooms for editing and sound mixing, processing, and other resources). On average, additional costs have been estimated as follows: $2,000 to $5,000 for the first year; $5,000 to $15,000 for the second year; $15,000 and up for the third-year (thesis).

Financial Aid for International Students
Tuition scholarships for international students (F-1 and J-1 visas) are very limited. International applicants are urged to seek aid from their home country's government and other outside sources.

Recommendations
Please list the identities of at least 2 people who will be submitting letters of recommendation on your behalf. Recommendations should be provided from employers, supervisors, professors, or others who are able to comment on your professional and educational goals and potential (no friends or relatives please).

The personal statement
should express your goals as a Filmmaker and the reasons you are applying to the program.

The Creative Portfolio

Please prepare the following items for your creative portfolio package:

1. Visual Submission: a sample or samples of your work presented visually. Material done in collaboration with other artists is acceptable provided you were the major creative force (i.e., director, producer, writer) and you explain in detail on the Creative Portfolio Contents Guide Sheet the exact nature of your contribution. Choose one of the following formats (i.e., do not combine video and slides):
* Video: The submission must be on one tape in VHS/NTSC format only or one DVD (Region 1 format only) and can contain one or more selections as long as the total running time does not exceed 30 minutes. We strongly recommend that applicants who are submitting a DVD also submit a VHS backup of their work. Video footage of staged plays or theatre performances is not acceptable.
* Photographs (Stills): no more than 10 stills on any subject, black and white or color, with or without commentary. The size must be 8" x 10" (or the closest metric standard). The photographs may also be a presentation of work in other media, such as painting, illustration, sculpture, architectural drawings, set design, costume design, etc.
* Slides: submit no more than 20 slide transparencies, inserted into a single plastic slide sheet. As in the case of still photographs, slides can be on any subject of the applicant’s choice, including other media.
2. Written Submissions: submit all of the following:
1. A story synopsis for a four-minute silent film. Only exterior settings should be used, without description of camera angles. There should be a visual story line and characters, but no voice-over, dialogue, or music (typed, double-spaced, in paragraph form up to four pages).
2. A dialogue scene between two people. Provide a one-paragraph introduction identifying the background and personality traits of the characters (typed screenplay format, maximum of two pages).
3. Describe one concept for a feature-length script, narrative, or documentary that you would like to develop (one page, typed, double-spaced).
3. The Creative Portfolio Contents Guide Sheet. (this form is located in the "downloadable forms" section of the online application).
4. Passport-sized photograph of yourself (stapled to the Creative Portfolio Contents Guide Sheet).
